Game modes
Normal mode
Whoever collects the most assets (gold + towns) in a set period of time wins.
The period can be selected from 1 to 9999 weeks, and can be changed even during the game.
In this mode, you can choose the character level at the start and the initial equipment will change accordingly.
The initial stats are also distributed randomly based on the level.
Story mode
The story mode starts in a training area. There, you have two weeks to collect basic equipment from chest. There are no monsters in this area.
The first players to reach the castle will get bonus points to put in their stats.
Once every player is done with the training area, the story starts. It’s divided into 8 chapters.
Each chapter follows the same structure. Walk around fighting monsters, freeing towns, leveling up, gearing up in order to kill bosses (Represented by a green dragon on the map). After a certain number of bosses is killed, the special quest for the chapter will be triggered. Completing the quest will unlock the next continent and the next chapter.
At the end of the last chapter, the player with the highest worth (town value + gold) is the winner.
There is no limit to the number of weeks.
Battle Royale
There are three types of race, each with their specific win conditions.
In this mode, as in normal mode, you can set the character level at the start, and depending on the level you set, not only will the equipment and other items differ, but the difficulty of the victory conditions will also change.
Town Race
Whoever frees the specified village first wins.
Kill Race
Whoever reaches the specified kill counts first wins. Only killing other players counts.
Shop Race
Whoever brings the specified items to the Dokapon castle first wins.
Quiz
The quizz is a series of 8 random questions.
According to your results, you are given a recommendation of the AI to play against (easy, normal or hard).
The last question (times played) is always the same and seems to have no purpose.

Battle Cards
Combats is turn-based and each turn has 2 phases: an attacking phase and defending phase.

(Press left or right to swap cards).
The card determines which phase you will get first.
Attacking Phase
Button | Action | Effect |
---|---|---|
A | Attack | A normal attack with your equipped weapon. If the enemy speed is higher, they may dodge. |

X | Magic Attack | An attack with your equipped magic attack (The name will change accordingly). Consumes one magic use. This action is not available if you have no magic attack equipped or if you run out of uses. |
B | Focus | You don’t attack but you get a temporary bonus of +50% AT. The bonus can be stacked several times. The bonus wears off after attacking or ending the fight. |
During this phase, you can cycle through your items with R or L.

Combat Outcome
If you defeat a normal monster you get:
- experience points

If you defeat a big monster you get:
- gold
- any item or magic the monster had
If you defeat another player you may:

- take one item
- take one field magic
- take a town
- take one piece of gear (weapon, armor or shield)
- change their name (they can change it back in Dokapon Castle for a fee)

If you escape a fight:
- you lose gold, one item or one field magic
- your next turn is skipped
If you are defeated by a monster, you may lose:
- gold
- an item
- a field magic
- gear
- a town and you rest several turns in the last church (or Dokapon Castle) you visited
If you die without any weapon, armor and shield, the king will give you some basic replacement gear.
Spaces
Empty Space
- Triggers random battles with monsters
- Triggers random events with NPCs
On this space, if you land on another player, you will fight each other unless a random event occurs. The biome (plain, desert, ocean, etc.) only affects the monsters you encounter.
One-way paths
Self-explanatory.
Snow Space
- All the rules for the basic empty spaces apply
- Paralyzes for a few turn if your land on it and don’t have a Snowsuit in your inventory
Toxic Swamp
- All the rules for the basic empty spaces apply
- You get poisoned if you go through it (even if you don’t stop on it) unless you have Boots in your inventory
Towns
At the start of the game, all towns are overrun by monsters.
Except for the first and last continent (Asia and Australia), the monsters in the towns are regular monsters from the next continent.
There is always one big monster spawned in place of a regular monster. Defeating big monsters is what progresses the main events in story mode. Their level is the average level of all players with a minimum of 6.
Town with monster | Town with big monster |
---|---|
Defeating a monster in a town makes you the ruler of the town.
Your towns generate money every day in the form of taxes.
Each town has a predefined value. The further away from Dokapon Castle it is, the higher the value and the higher the income tax.
When you stop in your town, you recover all your HP and you collect all the tax money saved up over time. You also get the option to donate money in order to level up the town.
Town levels range from 1 to 6. Each level increases the income tax and the last level (6) doubles the town value.
Town Level 1-2 | Town Level 3-4 | Town Level 5-6 |
---|---|---|
If you stop in a town ruled by another player, you can spend the night to fully recover your HP at a cost equal to the income tax.
You can also try to rob the money saved up at the risk of becoming Wanted with a bounty on your head.
Landing on a town with another player will trigger a battle.
Churches
There’s one church on each continent except Asia.
Visiting a church lets you:
- recover all your HP
- cures of the following status: poison and curse
- set you respawn location when you die
- turn back to human if you became the devil
In the Spring Cave (North Asia), there is a warp space that lets you teleport to any church (or Dokapon Castle) for a cost.
Dokapon Castle
It’s the starting location of normal mode. In the story mode, it’s the end of the tutorial area and the start of the first chapter.
It acts as the church for Asia (see Church section above).
If your name has been changed by another player after losing a fight, you can go there and change your name again for the cost of 1/16th of your current worth (gold + town values).
When you go to the castle, the king will make a comment based on your Attack value and the Defense value of the big monster:
- If you can kill the big monster in a single hit: “With your current attack power, you can definitely beat big monsters!”
- If you can kill the big monster in 2 hits, 1 strike or 1 hit after focusing: “You might be able to defeat a big monster with your current attack power”
- Otherwise: “You can’t defeat the big monster with your current attack power”
Castles
There’s one small castle like this on each of the 7 continents.
In normal mode, they have no purpose and no effect.
In story mode, they are given as a reward by the king to the player who completes the chapter quest first (The last chapter grants no castle).
The value of a castle is set at the moment of acquisition.
It’s defined as twice the value of the most valued free town on the continent.
Once a castle is acquired, its value will not change even if towns are lost or leveled up later in the game.
If there are no free towns on the continent, the castle value will be 0 and the king will mock you.
Just like towns, they generate gold every day. The castle income is defined as the sum of all free towns income on the continent (regardless of the owner of the towns) with a maximum of 9999. The income will change as the towns are freed, leveled up or reclaimed by monsters.
Unlike towns, castles can’t be lost, robbed or stolen once they are acquired.
You can stop by a castle to recover HP.
Shops
There are 3 types of shops: Items, Gear (weapons, shields and armors) and Magic.
One of each type is present in every continent with increasingly powerful items.
Exceptions:
- No Magic Shop in South America
- No shops in Greenland
You can sell items, gear or magic for 50% of their value to any shop.
When buying gear, the vendor automatically offers to buy back your current gear. This is not the case with Attack Magic or Defense Magic.
Shops can be attacked for a chance at getting one of the best item sold for free at the risk of becoming Wanted. (See Wanted status)

Training Area
The training area is a map that is unique to the story mode.
There are no monsters, no fights between players and no random events.
The empty spaces will have encounters with random NPCs giving advice and information about different aspects of the game.
Gear Chests
The training area in story mode has red chests that unique to this area.
They contain the 4 most basic weapons, shields and armors.
The odds of getting each item depends on the chest level (1, 2 or 3).
Apart from the odds, the chest contents is the same for a specified type of gear.
In other words, if you are lucky to get the best outcome from a chest level 1 or 2 (the Axe, the Bronze Shield or the Cloak), there is no point of going to the chest level 3.
Here are the odds out of 16 outcomes:

Towns
List of Towns
The town names, unlike in the Wii version, are actual city names. But because the city names in Japanese fit on 4 characters, I added two-letter characters in order to be able to write 8-letter city names. The city names that were longer than 8 letters are replaced with shorter names from other actual cities of the same area.
The two-letter characters are also used for some equipment names but due to the way the characters are encoded in the game, there’s only so many that can be used.

Special Events
Devil/Darkling
The player in last place can turn themselves into a devil by going to the pentagram, south of Dokapon Castle.
Using the Contract item will also teleport you to the pentagram.
The pentagram space:
Last place is indicated by an imp over the player:
The player transformed into the devil:
The devil powers include:
- Permanent *Spinner effect for movement
- All stats multiplied by 3
- You recover HP and status by stopping in a town overrun by monsters
- Stopping in a free town will spawn a monster
- Trigger big monster events. The more power you get, the more powerful the events
- You don’t get to loot treasure chests
- The rewards for defeating other players are slightly different:
- Take gear, item, magic = Discard them
- Take town = Spawn a monster in that town
Defeating the devil lets you take their gear which is quite powerful and has no drawbacks.
